Hamed's Weekend Plans

Hamed is a postgrad student at UniHall, currently conducting research in gene therapy.

He moved to UniHall 3 years ago from Iran, and spends most of his free time on the weekend doing something active out and about in Perth with friends.

On the weekends I like to start my day with an early morning coffee (North Street Store, coffee and cinnamon scroll) with friends. I’ll usually do some outdoor activities like hiking, climbing or going on walking trails. One of my favourites is Bold Park because you get to see the city scape at certain places on the trails. Recently I went on a bike ride from UniHall along the coast to Mosman Park and back. Plus, there’s the UniHall Outdoor Club, who usually run outdoor activities and short trips on the weekend such as national park tours or water sports.

I also love cooking with friends in our rooms. Sometime we’ll head down to Matilda Bay or Kings Park for a picnic or Barbeque Dinner.

When it’s cold in winter, instead of heading outdoors for dinner, I’ll usually hang out with friends indoors, like in someone’s room or at a house party.

Hamed Recommends

I highly recommend going to Scarborough Beach to watch the sunset. Head into Freo for fish and chips by the beach, or grab something to eat from the Freo markets.

Hameds favourite weekend memory

My favourite weekend memory in my time here at UniHall was when a group of us went down to Dunsborough on a day trip. We drove down early morning, to get there around 9am. We spent the morning kayaking and sailing. We also did SUPPING (Stand Up Paddle Boarding) and even tried out some jetskis.

Then we had some lunch at the shops in Dunsborough and spent the afternoon chilling by the beach. We drove back to Perth to get home by 8pm.

What about when it's study time?

If I have a very busy weekend of study, I usually spend my time studying, but have breaks where I catch up with friends to keep me going.

I’ll usually start the day with an early morning cycle or run around the river to get outdoors. Then I get started on study, and I try to do blocks of study in different locations to keep things fresh. Like in the morning, I might start studying at Reid Library at Uni, in the afternoon I’ll come back to UniHall and use a study room or the outdoor areas, then in the evening I’ll join up with a friend and study in their room. In between I’ll go into the games room and play some ping pong or pool with friends, or go into the Dining Hall to break up the study blocks.

When I’m busy with study I’ll usually have dinner in the Dining Hall to save time on cooking. Otherwise I’ll order Uber Eats.
