Commencement Dinner of Olympic Proportions

The usually bustling Hackett Cafe on UWA's campus underwent a magical transformation last night. What was once a haven for students seeking caffeine-fuelled study sessions now exuded an air of elegance and sophistication, bathed in the glow of soft, Parisian-themed décor. Phenomenon Events had worked their magic, turning the familiar space into a dreamy setting fit for a special occasion.

It was the Commencement Dinner for Semester 2 residents of UniHall, and anticipation buzzed in the air as guests arrived, dressed in Parisian Chic’ or Sports Kit in honour of this year’s Olympic host city.

The music of Aquila filled the air. The classically trained string quartet, composed of some of Perth’s most esteemed musicians, gracefully transitioned modern hits into melodic renditions that captivated the audience. Their performance set the perfect tone for an evening of camaraderie and new beginnings.

Emcees Mehardeep Kaur and Ethan Nicholas, charismatic and engaging, guided the evening's proceedings with wit and charm.

Mark Sampson, Principal of UniHall, took to the stage to commence the evening's more formal festivities. His speech, delivered with warmth and wisdom, encouraged the newcomers to seize every opportunity during their time at college, no matter how brief or lengthy it might be.

Throughout the night, laughter and the clinking of glasses echoed against the backdrop of lively conversations. New friendships blossomed under the Eiffel Tower, which was a sparkling centrepiece for the evening, creating an ambiance that felt both intimate and grand. Residents shared stories of their aspirations and exchanged cultural insights, united by the shared excitement of embarking on this new chapter together.

Next up on stage was Hayden Glass, Deputy Principal who introduced three of our residents, Tristen Shum, Shu Wen and Anthony Sims. Each of them sharing their personal UniHall experience and some of the wonderful opportunities available to students while living at College.

As the evening drew to a close, the spirit of unity and possibility lingered in the air. The Commencement Dinner had not only marked the beginning of a new academic semester but had also set the stage for memorable experiences and enduring friendships to flourish within the halls of UniHall.
