Last week marked a significant milestone as we gathered for the formal commencement dinner of our 2024, semester 1 residential community. The evening was graced with distinguished guests, including His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia, accompanied by Mrs. Dawson from Government House. Joining them were esteemed individuals such as Professor Tim Colmer, Selina Torrance, Ian Fitzpatrick, Mark Sampson, and other senior staff from The University of Western Australia and UniHall.
In his address, His Excellency challenged our cohort to embrace the pursuit of wisdom and to scrutinize ideas and concepts, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Ecclesiastes. The event commenced with a heartfelt Welcome to Country delivered by Emeritus Professor Dr. Leonard Collard, setting the tone for an evening of significance and cultural respect.
The proceedings were expertly guided by our emcees, current residents and residential advisors Kiona Fry and Kim Wong. Guests were treated to delightful musical performances by the champagne wedding duo, adding a touch of elegance to the festivities. As speeches concluded, residents enthusiastically took to the dance floor, revelling in the joy of the occasion.
The Uni Hall Upper Quad was transformed into a scene of enchantment, thanks to the meticulous styling by Phenomenon Events. Perth Audio Visual ensured that every moment was accompanied by the perfect lighting and sound, enhancing the ambiance of the evening.
Overall, it was a truly memorable evening, marking the beginning of the 2024 academic year with warmth, celebration, and a sense of community.
